What's Done
in the Dark

(Instrumental Piece)

'What's Done in the Dark' emerged from a place of physical and emotional recovery. Conceived while i recovered from a concussion and suffered from intense light sensitivity. During this period, I had to keep myself In darkness and so while composing this song, I had to keep my computer screen on the dimmest setting, however, even then I had to squint and look away.

The musical narrative unfolds with somber strings, conveying a lonely tone that mirrors my inability to communicate over the phone during the recovery process, therefore, keeping my close ones in the dark on my current state. A melancholic piano takes the lead, reflecting on the isolation and emotional landscape tied to the experience. This poignant beginning offers a unique backdrop for sync placements that delve into themes of solitude, introspection, and resilience.

The piano returns with a shift in emotion. With that sense of loneliness from before but a subtle thread of hope is introduced. As the composition progresses, a crescendo of violins and cellos build, symbolizing that speck of hope growing, the feeling leaving listeners on the edges of their seats as they anticipate what comes next. This dynamic shift creates an opportunity for placements in scenes depicting personal growth and overcoming obstacles. The climax arrives ushered in by triumphant drums, strings, and pianos, representing both the emergence of truth now there are no more secrets, but also my re-emergence into the light. The mood transforms as the listener is taken from anticipation to revelation.

The song concludes with a satisfying finish, incorporating earlier motifs but infusing them with an uplifting spirit, echoing recovery and newfound clarity. 'What's Done in the Dark' is a multi-layered instrumental piece, laden with tension and resolution, perfectly aligning with visuals that encapsulate moments of truth, family support, and personal triumph. Making it a versatile and emotionally resonant asset for placements across a range of visual storytelling contexts.
